Curtains are an essential interior décor item to give a stylish and elegant look to a room. It augments the whole idea of the interior designing. Bare windows or doors cast a gloom on the entire interior décor. Curtains are used not only as mere decorative objects, but they also serve to protect us from the harsh sunrays during daytime, to shut the outer view, to give us privacy and security.
Curtains come with many accessories these days. There are a number of ways to hang the curtains on the windows, doors, or any other place. Traditionally, brackets or railings were used to hang the curtains. With the innovations in modern times, old styles are gelled with new trends, giving birth to amazing accessories.
Curtain-poles have been in use for a very long time, but now one can find many different designs, materials and styles, which further enhance the beauty of curtains, and the room itself. You can choose from wood curtain-poles, metal curtain-poles made from brass, stainless steel, wrought iron or chrome, or any luxury curtain-poles with carvings, and special finishing, and polishing.
However, the first step of buying curtain-poles is to take accurate measurement for the current poles. No matter, which type of curtain-pole you select, you need to measure for a standard curtain-pole. The measurement of the curtain-pole depends upon the type, and dimensions of the windows, and how you want it to be displayed in your room.
Some people like to have it fixed right on top of the window, while others prefer it to be slightly above the window. The standard height of the curtain-poles, as recognised by most interior designers and curtain specialists is 6 inches, or 15 cm above the window.
As for the width of the pole, measure the width of the inside recess of the window. Note it down as X cm. considering the space on either side of the window; decide how long you want the pole to be, in order to pull back the curtains. This is important, because you will need to pull back the curtains for a lot of time everyday to allow fresh air, and sunrays in your room. The standard space on either side of the window is again 6 inches or 15 cm.
The equation for the standard curtain pole will be 15 cm+ X cm+15 cm. You must remember a few points while measuring the standard curtain poles. Make sure that the measurements are accurate. Longer poles can be shortened, but the reverse of it can result in a disaster, and waste of money.
Using metallic measurement tape will give you more accuracy. Ask someone to recheck the measurements for you. If the window is wide, then you might have to connect more than one pole to cover the entire window. Do not measure finials as part of the curtain poles.
